Liisa's 25th birthday in Melk. Lots of cold wind and rain was exchanged into a spontaneous Benedictine Abbey visit that turned out to be very interesting and beautiful as well as old and historically important one. Being also added to Unesco's heritage list, it's small but overly gilded church definitely made an appearance that is worth recommending others, who have not been there yet, to visit! Our cold but curious noses continued the trip to Krems, another beautiful and a bit bigger Danube city. Actually, I personally loved an hour long bus trip from Melk to Krems that took us through all the other smaller villages along the Danube which are so nice and romantic, even in the rain :D After a slice of pizza we found the place we were looking for - Sandgrube Weinsinn - a vineyard where we got to taste 3 white wines - Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Chardonnay and 2 red ones Zwiegelt and Blaufränkisch. The weinführung tour guide was absolutely horrible and, since it got only worse and worse, the more Karu sisters got drunk the more questions we started asking, in order to be more amused by the underdeveloped knowledge of our tour guide, a girl my age. In the end, since we were there with older Americans, a lady came to us and asked if we were journalists or are we making some kind of a research :D Which was very funny! And then her advise to us was that we should not bother ourselves with questions and just drink the wine! It's easy - you like it - you take more, you don't like it - you don't drink it. Oh, just sooo american and just so Not Estonian. Then we got some bottles of wine and snacks for our train trip back to Vienna.. The evening came to an end at Dachboden :)
Tourists exploring - coming and going
There is this club in Vienna Chaya Fuera that has totally grown on me. Always good music, nice people, not too packed - Worth for a little party anytime!
Some more rainy days followed Mona's visit here in Vienna and one from these we spent at Haus des Meeres. It's like a zoo, big old and ugly building from outside that is accommodated by fishes and amphibians and other "rain forest" animals - monkeys, snakes, birds etc. After couple of hours exploring the 10 different floors and escaping from school kids we challenged our renewed wine knowledge at the top floor cafe with a nice panorama over Vienna.
Now, after some kilos of Easter chocolate and some more days spent with friends in Munich, it is time to get back on the running schedule and follow the normal and healthy living track again..
